How I got here…
Katie is a former international athlete having played England Hockey for five years before moving into sports broadcasting.
She won bronze at the European Championships, clinched the Premiership title in England, and has travelled around the world playing hockey at the highest level in the USA and Australia.
In the US, Katie was awarded a hockey scholarship at the University of North Carolina, which holds one of the most successful women’s hockey teams in America.
Katie’s career stateside saw her reach the NCAA final with the Tar Heels, before flying to Australia where she played for the Rockingham Redbacks in Perth. Katie’s also travelled to The Netherlands representing GB Universities for Handball, after only learning the sport for six months. Not to mention scoring a goal at Wembley!
Katie has always been sporty.
From mucking in with the boys playing football in the playground, to being awarded a sports scholarship at school. She enjoyed all sports. But before long, Katie’s hockey career took off and England came calling. After America, she went to Loughborough University where she studied Geography (2:1) alongside playing for England Hockey.
After university, Katie decided to leave her job as a Production Coordinator at Input Media (now Gravity Media) to secure a Distinction in her Masters in Sports Journalism. Katie then began her freelance career at both Sky Sports and BBC London, before landing her first job at BBC London as a Sports Reporter.
… on Premier League games, England Rugby’s Autumn Internationals at Twickenham and even had a front row seat on centre court at Wimbledon to broadcast live from the World Championships.
Katie broke her first story for BBC News on BBC One about banning heading in football for Under 11’s in the UK. This was after landing an exclusive interview with former England, Tottenham and Wolves player Ryan Mason.
From there, she went onto report regularly…
Now, you’ll find Katie anchoring programmes on national television…
… to asking the questions with the England’s Women’s National Team to blockbuster moments with Premier League managers…
Antonio Conte’s final interview as Tottenham manager for example.
Over the years, Katie has won a handful of sport awards. She won Highly Commended in the ‘Ones to Watch’ On-Air category at the 2019 Sports Journalism Awards, as she hopes to replicate her achievements in hockey and be shoulder to shoulder amongst the very best in sports broadcasting.
